Week 1
Introduction of the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations. Introduction to the general concept, and concepts of global problems and it’s related solutions. Students will be introduced to a series of videos associated with SDGs in Japanese and English. Some video resources will be animations that help to address difficult concepts in an accessible way that encourages student learning, aligns with their interest and support differentiation. Worksheets, checklists, and guided notes will be provided to students for language and content learning. Technologies such as videos, online resources, and search engines will be incorporated into different learning tasks. Students will begin writing their first Learning Blog post towards the end of the week to reflect on their learning and provide formative feedback for the teachers.

Students will develop number sense through analyzing data and proportions about populations/countries around the world and its significance relating to the development and need of each of the SDG goals through a social justice lens.

Number Sense Outcomes:
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of decimals to solve problems relating to the SDGs
3. Solve problems involving percents from 1% to 100% relating to all the SDGs and their development
6. Demonstrate an understanding of addition and subtraction of integers, concretely, pictorially and symbolically through SDG themed activities.
7. Compare and order positive fractions, positive decimals (to thousandths) and whole numbers by using: benchmarks, place value, equivalent fractions and/or decimals.
